Surah Al Fajr (The Dawn)

89.21

surah 89 - verse 21

Arberry No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder,
Maududi But no; when the earth is ground to powder,
Pickthall Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,
Sahih No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -
Yusuf Ali Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder,

89.22

Arberry and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank,
Maududi and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels,
Pickthall And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,
Sahih And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,
Yusuf Ali And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank,

89.23

surah 89 - verse 23

Arberry and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him?
Maududi and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be?
Pickthall And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?
Sahih And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?
Yusuf Ali And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him?

89.24

surah 89 - verse 24

Arberry He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!'
Maududi He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!”
Pickthall He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!
Sahih He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
Yusuf Ali He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!"

89.25

surah 89 - verse 25

Arberry Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises,
Maududi Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise;
Pickthall None punisheth as He will punish on that day!
Sahih So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
Yusuf Ali For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict,

89.26

surah 89 - verse 26

Arberry none shall bind as He binds.
Maududi and Allah will bind as none other can bind.
Pickthall None bindeth as He then will bind.
Sahih And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
Yusuf Ali And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind.

89.27

surah 89 - verse 27

Arberry 'O soul at peace,
Maududi (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul!
Pickthall But ah! thou soul at peace!
Sahih [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
Yusuf Ali (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!

89.28

surah 89 - verse 28

Arberry return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing!
Maududi Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord).
Pickthall Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
Sahih Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
Yusuf Ali "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!

89.29

surah 89 - verse 29

Arberry Enter thou among My servants!
Maududi So enter among My (righteous) servants
Pickthall Enter thou among My bondmen!
Sahih And enter among My [righteous] servants
Yusuf Ali "Enter thou, then, among My devotees!

89.30

surah 89 - verse 30

Arberry Enter thou My Paradise!'
Maududi and enter My Paradise.”
Pickthall Enter thou My Garden!
Sahih And enter My Paradise."
Yusuf Ali "Yea, enter thou My Heaven!
