Surah As Saaffat (Those who set the ranks)

37.161

surah 37 - verse 161

Arberry But as for you, and that you serve,
Maududi So you and your deities
Pickthall Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship,
Sahih So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
Yusuf Ali For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship-

37.162

surah 37 - verse 162

Arberry you shall not tempt any against Him
Maududi shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah
Pickthall Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him.
Sahih You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
Yusuf Ali Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah,

37.163

surah 37 - verse 163

Arberry except him who shall roast in Hell.
Maududi except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire.
Pickthall Save him who is to burn in hell.
Sahih Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.
Yusuf Ali Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire!

37.164

surah 37 - verse 164

Arberry None of us is there, but has a known station;
Maududi As for us, there is none but has an appointed station.
Pickthall There is not one of us but hath his known position.
Sahih [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
Yusuf Ali (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed;

Arberry we are the rangers,
Maududi Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants)
Pickthall Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks,
Sahih And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].
Yusuf Ali "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service);

37.166

surah 37 - verse 166

Arberry we are they that give glory.
Maududi and we are of those who glorify Allah.”
Pickthall Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise
Sahih And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah."
Yusuf Ali "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!"

37.167

37.168

Arberry 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients,
Maududi “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore
Pickthall If we had but a reminder from the men of old
Sahih "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
Yusuf Ali "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old,

37.169

Arberry then were we God's sincere servants.'
Maududi we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.”
Pickthall We would be single-minded slaves of Allah.
Sahih We would have been the chosen servants of Allah."
Yusuf Ali "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!"

37.170

surah 37 - verse 170

Arberry But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know!
Maududi But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude).
Pickthall Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know.
Sahih But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.
Yusuf Ali But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know!

37.171

surah 37 - verse 171

Arberry Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys;
Maududi We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers
Pickthall And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn)
Sahih And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
Yusuf Ali Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us),

37.172

surah 37 - verse 172

Arberry assuredly they shall be helped,
Maududi that they shall certainly be succoured,
Pickthall That they verily would be helped,
Sahih [That] indeed, they would be those given victory
Yusuf Ali That they would certainly be assisted,

37.173

surah 37 - verse 173

Arberry and Our host -- they are the victors.
Maududi and that Our hosts shall triumph.
Pickthall And that Our host, they verily would be the victors.
Sahih And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome.
Yusuf Ali And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer.

37.174

surah 37 - verse 174

Arberry So turn thou from them for a while,
Maududi So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while,
Pickthall So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile,
Sahih So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time.
Yusuf Ali So turn thou away from them for a little while,

37.175

surah 37 - verse 175

Arberry and see them; soon they shall see!
Maududi and see, and soon they too shall see.
Pickthall And watch, for they will (soon) see.
Sahih And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
Yusuf Ali And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

37.176

surah 37 - verse 176

Arberry What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement?
Maududi Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement?
Pickthall Would they hasten on Our doom?
Sahih Then for Our punishment are they impatient?
Yusuf Ali Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment?

37.177

surah 37 - verse 177

Arberry When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned!
Maududi When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned.
Pickthall But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned.
Sahih But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.
Yusuf Ali But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)!

37.178

surah 37 - verse 178

Arberry So turn thou from them for a while,
Maududi Leave them alone for a while,
Pickthall Withdraw from them awhile
Sahih And leave them for a time.
Yusuf Ali So turn thou away from them for a little while,

37.179

surah 37 - verse 179

Arberry and see; soon they shall see!
Maududi and see; and they too shall soon see.
Pickthall And watch, for they will (soon) see.
Sahih And see, for they are going to see.
Yusuf Ali And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

37.180

surah 37 - verse 180

Arberry Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe!
Maududi Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him,
Pickthall Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him)
Sahih Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
Yusuf Ali Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)!
