Sura Ad Dhuha (The Morning Light)

93.1

surah 93 - verse 1

Arberry By the white forenoon
Maududi By the bright forenoon,
Pickthall By the morning hours
Sahih By the morning brightness
Yusuf Ali By the Glorious Morning Light,

93.2

surah 93 - verse 2

Arberry and the brooding night!
Maududi and by the night when it covers the world with peace:
Pickthall And by the night when it is stillest,
Sahih And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,
Yusuf Ali And by the Night when it is still,-

93.3

surah 93 - verse 3

Arberry Thy Lord has neither forsaken thee nor hates thee
Maududi (O Prophet), your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased.
Pickthall Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,
Sahih Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].
Yusuf Ali Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

93.4

surah 93 - verse 4

Arberry and the Last shall be better for thee than the First.
Maududi Indeed what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by.
Pickthall And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,
Sahih And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].
Yusuf Ali And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

93.5

surah 93 - verse 5

Arberry Thy Lord shall give thee, and thou shalt be satisfied.
Maududi Verily your Lord will soon give you so amply that you will be well-pleased.
Pickthall And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.
Sahih And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
Yusuf Ali And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

93.6

surah 93 - verse 6

Arberry Did He not find thee an orphan, and shelter thee?
Maududi Did He not find you an orphan and then gave you shelter?
Pickthall Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?
Sahih Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?
Yusuf Ali Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

93.7

surah 93 - verse 7

Arberry Did He not find thee erring, and guide thee?
Maududi Did He not find you unaware of the Right Way, and then directed you to it?
Pickthall Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?
Sahih And He found you lost and guided [you],
Yusuf Ali And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

93.8

surah 93 - verse 8

Arberry Did He not find thee needy, and suffice thee?
Maududi And did He not find you in want, and then enriched you?
Pickthall Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?
Sahih And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
Yusuf Ali And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

93.9

surah 93 - verse 9

Arberry As for the orphan, do not oppress him,
Maududi Therefore, be not harsh with the orphan;
Pickthall Therefor the orphan oppress not,
Sahih So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
Yusuf Ali Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

93.10

surah 93 - verse 10

Arberry and as for the beggar, scold him not;
Maududi and chide not him who asks,
Pickthall Therefor the beggar drive not away,
Sahih And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].
Yusuf Ali Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);

93.11

surah 93 - verse 11

Arberry and as for thy Lord's blessing, declare it.
Maududi and proclaim the bounty of your Lord.
Pickthall Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.
Sahih But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].
Yusuf Ali But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!
