surah 26 - verse 161

Arberry when their brother Lot said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing?
Maududi Recall, when their brother Lot said to them: "Have you no fear?
Pickthall When their brother Lot said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Sahih When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear Allah?
Yusuf Ali Behold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

26.162

Arberry I am for you a faithful Messenger,
Maududi I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
Pickthall Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,
Sahih Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
Yusuf Ali "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust.

Arberry I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being.
Maududi I seek of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe.
Pickthall And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Sahih And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds.
Yusuf Ali "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the lord of the Worlds.

Arberry What, do you come to male beings,
Maududi What, of all creation will you go to (fornicate with) the males,
Pickthall What! Of all creatures do ye come unto the males,
Sahih Do you approach males among the worlds
Yusuf Ali "Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males,

Arberry leaving your wives that your Lord created for you? Nay, but you are a people of transgressors.
Maududi leaving aside those whom Allah has created for you as your mates. Nay, you are a people that has transgressed all limits."
Pickthall And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk.
Sahih And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing."
Yusuf Ali "And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!"

26.167

surah 26 - verse 167

Arberry They said, 'If thou givest not over, Lot, thou shalt assuredly be one of the expelled.'
Maududi They said: "O Lot! If you do not desist, you will be one of those expelled (from our towns)."
Pickthall They said: If thou cease not, O Lot, thou wilt soon be of the outcast.
Sahih They said, "If you do not desist, O Lot, you will surely be of those evicted."
Yusuf Ali They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!"

Arberry He said, 'Truly I am a detester of what you do.
Maududi He said: "I am one of those who abhor your practice.
Pickthall He said: I am in truth of those who hate your conduct.
Sahih He said, "Indeed, I am, toward your deed, of those who detest [it].
Yusuf Ali He said: "I do detest your doings."

Arberry My Lord, deliver me and my people from that they do.'
Maududi My Lord, deliver me and my family from their wicked deeds."
Pickthall My Lord! Save me and my household from what they do.

Arberry then We destroyed the others,
Maududi Thereafter, We utterly destroyed the rest,

Arberry and We rained on them a rain; and evil is the rain of them that are warned.
Maududi and We sent upon them a rain, an evil rain that fell on those who had been warned.
Pickthall And We rained on them a rain. And dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned.
Sahih And We rained upon them a rain [of stones], and evil was the rain of those who were warned.
Yusuf Ali We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!

26.174

surah 26 - verse 174

Arberry Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Maududi Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe.
Pickthall Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Sahih Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
Yusuf Ali Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

surah 26 - verse 175

Arberry Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.
Maududi Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate.
Pickthall And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Sahih And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful.

26.176

surah 26 - verse 176

Arberry The men of the Thicket cried lies to the Envoys
Maududi The people of Aykah also gave the lie to the Messengers.
Pickthall The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah),
Sahih The companions of the thicket denied the messengers
Yusuf Ali The Companions of the Wood rejected the messengers.
