Surah Ya Sin

36.41

surah 36 - verse 41

Arberry And a sign for them is that We carried their seed in the laden ship,
Maududi Another Sign for them is that We carried all their offspring in the laden vessel
Pickthall And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship,
Sahih And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship.
Yusuf Ali And a Sign for them is that We bore their race (through the Flood) in the loaded Ark;

36.42

surah 36 - verse 42

Arberry and We have created for them the like of it whereon they ride;
Maududi and then created for them other vessels like those on which they ride.
Pickthall And have created for them of the like thereof whereon they ride.
Sahih And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.
Yusuf Ali And We have created for them similar (vessels) on which they ride.

36.43

surah 36 - verse 43

Arberry and if We will, We drown them, then none have they to cry to, neither are they delivered,
Maududi Should We so wish, We can drown them, and there will be none to heed their cries of distress, nor will they be rescued.
Pickthall And if We will, We drown them, and there is no help for them, neither can they be saved;
Sahih And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved
Yusuf Ali If it were Our Will, We could drown them: then would there be no helper (to hear their cry), nor could they be delivered,

36.44

surah 36 - verse 44

Arberry save as a mercy from Us, and enjoyment for a while.
Maududi It is only Our Mercy (that rescues them) and enables enjoyment of life for a while.
Pickthall Unless by mercy from Us and as comfort for a while.
Sahih Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.
Yusuf Ali Except by way of Mercy from Us, and by way of (world) convenience (to serve them) for a time.

36.45

surah 36 - verse 45

Arberry And when it is said to them, 'Fear what is before you and what is behind you; haply you will find mercy' --
Maududi When it is said to such people: “Guard yourselves against what is ahead of you and what has preceded you that mercy be shown to you” (they pay scant heed to it).
Pickthall When it is said unto them: Beware of that which is before you and that which is behind you, that haply ye may find mercy (they are heedless).
Sahih But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy... "
Yusuf Ali When they are told, "Fear ye that which is before you and that which will be after you, in order that ye may receive Mercy," (they turn back).

36.46

surah 36 - verse 46

Arberry yet never any sign of the signs of their Lord comes to them, but they are turning away from it.
Maududi Never does any Sign of their Lord come to them, but they turn away from it.
Pickthall Never came a token of the tokens of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it!
Sahih And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.
Yusuf Ali Not a Sign comes to them from among the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away therefrom.

36.47

surah 36 - verse 47

Arberry And when it is said to them, 'Expend of that God has provided you,' the unbelievers say to the believers, 'What, shall we feed such a one whom, if God willed, He would feed? You are only in manifest error!'
Maududi And when it is said to them: “Spend (in the Way of Allah) out of the sustenance that Allah has provided you,” the unbelievers say to the believers: “Shall we feed him whom, Allah would have fed, had He so wished?” Say: “You are in evident error.”
Pickthall And when it is said unto them: Spend of that wherewith Allah hath provided you, those who disbelieve say unto those who believe: Shall we feed those whom Allah, if He willed, would feed? Ye are in naught else than error manifest.
Sahih And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."
Yusuf Ali And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?- Ye are in nothing but manifest error."

36.48

surah 36 - verse 48

Arberry They also say, 'When shall this promise come to pass, if you speak truly?'
Maududi They say: “When will this threat (of Resurrection) come to pass? Tell us if indeed you are truthful.”
Pickthall And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful?
Sahih And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
Yusuf Ali Further, they say, "When will this promise (come to pass), if what ye say is true?"

36.49

surah 36 - verse 49

Arberry They are awaiting only for one Cry to seize them while they are yet disputing,
Maududi The Truth is that they are waiting for nothing but a mighty Blast to seize them the while they are disputing (in their worldly affairs),
Pickthall They await but one Shout, which will surprise them while they are disputing.
Sahih They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.
Yusuf Ali They will not (have to) wait for aught but a single Blast: it will seize them while they are yet disputing among themselves!

36.50

surah 36 - verse 50

Arberry then they will not be able to make any testament, nor will they return to their people.
Maududi and they will not even be able to make a testament, nor to return to their households.
Pickthall Then they cannot make bequest, nor can they return to their own folk.
Sahih And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.
Yusuf Ali No (chance) will they then have, by will, to dispose (of their affairs), nor to return to their own people!

36.51

surah 36 - verse 51

Arberry And the Trumpet shall be blown; then behold, they are sliding down from their tombs unto their Lord.
Maududi Then the Trumpet shall be blown and lo! they will come out of their graves and be on the move towards their Lord,
Pickthall And the trumpet is blown and lo! from the graves they hie unto their Lord,
Sahih And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.
Yusuf Ali The trumpet shall be sounded, when behold! from the sepulchres (men) will rush forth to their Lord!

36.52

surah 36 - verse 52

Arberry They say, 'Alas for us! Who roused us out of our sleeping place? This is what the All-merciful promised, and the Envoys spoke truly.'
Maududi (nervously) exclaiming. “Alas for us! Who roused us out of our sleeping-place?” “This is what the Merciful One had promised, and what (His) Messengers had said was true.”
Pickthall Crying: Woe upon us! Who hath raised us from our place of sleep? This is that which the Beneficent did promise, and the messengers spoke truth.
Sahih They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."
Yusuf Ali They will say: "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath raised us up from our beds of repose?"... (A voice will say:) "This is what (Allah) Most Gracious had promised. And true was the word of the messengers!"

36.53

surah 36 - verse 53

Arberry 'It was only one Cry; then behold, they are all arraigned before Us.
Maududi Then there will simply be one single Blast, and all will have gathered before Us.
Pickthall It is but one Shout, and behold them brought together before Us!
Sahih It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.
Yusuf Ali It will be no more than a single Blast, when lo! they will all be brought up before Us!

36.54

surah 36 - verse 54

Arberry So today no soul shall be wronged anything, and you shall not be recompensed, except according to what you have been doing.
Maududi Today no one shall suffer the least injustice, and you shall not be recompensed except according to your deeds.
Pickthall This day no soul is wronged in aught; nor are ye requited aught save what ye used to do.
Sahih So today no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.
Yusuf Ali Then, on that Day, not a soul will be wronged in the least, and ye shall but be repaid the meeds of your past Deeds.

36.55

surah 36 - verse 55

Arberry See, the inhabitants of Paradise today are busy in their rejoicing,
Maududi Indeed, the people of Paradise will be busy enjoying themselves:
Pickthall Lo! those who merit paradise this day are happily employed,
Sahih Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -
Yusuf Ali Verily the Companions of the Garden shall that Day have joy in all that they do;

36.56

surah 36 - verse 56

Arberry they and their spouses, reclining upon couches in the shade;
Maududi they and their spouses shall be reclining on their couches in shady groves;
Pickthall They and their wives, in pleasant shade, on thrones reclining;
Sahih They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches.
Yusuf Ali They and their associates will be in groves of (cool) shade, reclining on Thrones (of dignity);

36.57

surah 36 - verse 57

Arberry therein they have fruits, and they have all that they call for.
Maududi therein there will be all kinds of fruits to eat, and they shall have all that they desire.
Pickthall Theirs the fruit (of their good deeds) and theirs (all) that they ask;
Sahih For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]
Yusuf Ali (Every) fruit (enjoyment) will be there for them; they shall have whatever they call for;

36.58

surah 36 - verse 58

Arberry 'Peace!' -- such is the greeting, from a Lord All-compassionate.
Maududi “Peace” shall be the word conveyed to them from their Merciful Lord.
Pickthall The word from a Merciful Lord (for them) is: Peace!
Sahih [And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.
Yusuf Ali "Peace!" - a word (of salutation) from a Lord Most Merciful!

36.59

surah 36 - verse 59

Arberry 'Now keep yourselves apart, you sinners, upon this day!
Maududi “Criminals, separate yourselves from others today!
Pickthall But avaunt ye, O ye guilty, this day!
Sahih [Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals.
Yusuf Ali "And O ye in sin! Get ye apart this Day!

36.60

surah 36 - verse 60

Arberry Made I not covenant with you, Children of Adam, that you should not serve Satan -- surely he is a manifest foe to you --
Maududi Children of Adam, did I not command you not to serve Satan -- he is to you an open enemy
Pickthall Did I not charge you, O ye sons of Adam, that ye worship not the devil - Lo! he is your open foe! -
Sahih Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -
Yusuf Ali "Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-
