37.21
surah 37 - verse 21

| Arberry | 'This is the Day of Decision, even that you cried lies to. |
| Maududi | “Yes, this is the Day of Final Decision that you used to deny as a lie.” |
| Pickthall | This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. |
| Sahih | [They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny." |
| Yusuf Ali | (A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!" |
37.22
surah 37 - verse 22

| Arberry | Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, |
| Maududi | (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve |
| Pickthall | (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship |
| Sahih | [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship |
| Yusuf Ali | "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- |
37.23
surah 37 - verse 23

| Yusuf Ali | "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! |
37.24
surah 37 - verse 24

37.26
surah 37 - verse 26

| Arberry | No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission |
| Maududi | Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” |
| Pickthall | Nay, but this day they make full submission. |
| Sahih | But they, that Day, are in surrender. |
| Yusuf Ali | Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); |

| Maududi | They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). |
| Pickthall | And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. |
| Sahih | And they will approach one another blaming each other. |

37.28
surah 37 - verse 28

| Arberry | These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' |
| Maududi | (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” |
| Pickthall | They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). |
| Sahih | They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." |
| Yusuf Ali | They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" |
37.29
surah 37 - verse 29

| Arberry | Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; |
| Maududi | They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. |
| Pickthall | They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. |
| Sahih | The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, |
| Yusuf Ali | They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! |
37.30
surah 37 - verse 30

| Arberry | we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. |
| Maududi | We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, |
| Pickthall | We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. |
| Sahih | And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. |
| Yusuf Ali | "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! |
37.31
surah 37 - verse 31

| Arberry | So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. |
| Maududi | and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. |
| Pickthall | Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). |
| Sahih | So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. |
| Yusuf Ali | "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). |
37.32
surah 37 - verse 32

| Arberry | Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' |
| Maududi | So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” |
| Pickthall | Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. |
| Sahih | And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." |
| Yusuf Ali | "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." |
37.33
surah 37 - verse 33

| Arberry | So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. |
| Maududi | On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. |
| Pickthall | Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. |
| Sahih | So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. |
| Yusuf Ali | Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. |
37.34
surah 37 - verse 34

| Arberry | Even so We do with the sinners; |
| Maududi | Thus do We treat the culprits. |
| Pickthall | Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. |
| Sahih | Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. |
| Yusuf Ali | Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. |
37.35
surah 37 - verse 35

| Arberry | for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, |
| Maududi | Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud |
| Pickthall | For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful |
| Sahih | Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant |
| Yusuf Ali | For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, |
37.36
surah 37 - verse 36

| Arberry | saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' |
| Maududi | and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” |
| Pickthall | And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? |
| Sahih | And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" |
| Yusuf Ali | And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" |
37.37
surah 37 - verse 37

| Arberry | 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. |
| Maududi | (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. |
| Pickthall | Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). |
| Sahih | Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. |
| Yusuf Ali | Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). |
37.38
surah 37 - verse 38

| Arberry | Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, |
| Maududi | (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. |
| Pickthall | Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - |
| Sahih | Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, |
| Yusuf Ali | Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- |
37.39
surah 37 - verse 39

| Arberry | and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' |
| Maududi | You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” |
| Pickthall | Ye are requited naught save what ye did - |
| Sahih | And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - |
| Yusuf Ali | But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- |
37.40
surah 37 - verse 40

| Arberry | Except for God's sincere servants; |
| Maududi | But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). |
| Pickthall | Save single-minded slaves of Allah; |
| Sahih | But not the chosen servants of Allah. |
