Surah Al Qamar (The Moon)

54.41

surah 54 - verse 41

Arberry The warnings came also to Pharaoh's folk.
Maududi Warnings also came to the Pharaonites,
Pickthall And warnings came in truth unto the house of Pharaoh
Sahih And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.
Yusuf Ali To the People of Pharaoh, too, aforetime, came Warners (from Allah).

54.42

surah 54 - verse 42

Arberry They cried lies to Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with the seizing of One mighty, omnipotent.
Maududi but they gave the lie to Our Signs, to all of them. Thereupon We seized them with the seizing of the Most Mighty, the Most Powerful.
Pickthall Who denied Our revelations, every one. Therefore We grasped them with the grasp of the Mighty, the Powerful.
Sahih They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.
Yusuf Ali The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out His Will.

54.43

surah 54 - verse 43

Arberry What, are your unbelievers better than those? Or have you an immunity in the Scrolls?
Maududi Are your unbelievers (of Makkah) any better than they? Or have you been granted any immunity in the Scriptures?
Pickthall Are your disbelievers better than those, or have ye some immunity in the scriptures?
Sahih Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?
Yusuf Ali Are your Unbelievers, (O Quraish), better than they? Or have ye an immunity in the Sacred Books?

54.44

surah 54 - verse 44

Arberry Or do they say, 'We are a congregation that shall be succoured?'
Maududi Or do they say: “We are a strong legion, strong enough for victory?”
Pickthall Or say they: We are a host victorious?
Sahih Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?
Yusuf Ali Or do they say: "We acting together can defend ourselves"?

54.45

surah 54 - verse 45

Arberry Certainly the host shall be routed, and turn their backs.
Maududi Soon shall this legion be routed and shall turn their backs and flee.
Pickthall The hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee.
Sahih [Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].
Yusuf Ali Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs.

54.46

surah 54 - verse 46

Arberry Nay, but the Hour is their tryst, and the Hour is very calamitous and bitter.
Maududi Nay; the Hour of Doom is their appointed time, and the Hour shall be more calamitous and bitter.
Pickthall Nay, but the Hour (of doom) is their appointed tryst, and the Hour will be more wretched and more bitter (than their earthly failure).
Sahih But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.
Yusuf Ali Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.

54.47

surah 54 - verse 47

Arberry Surely the sinners are in error and insanity!
Maududi The evil-doers are victims of error and madness.
Pickthall Lo! the guilty are in error and madness.
Sahih Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.
Yusuf Ali Truly those in sin are the ones straying in mind, and mad.

54.48

surah 54 - verse 48

Arberry The day when they are dragged on their faces into the Fire: 'Taste now the touch of Sakar!'
Maududi There shall come a Day when they will be dragged on their faces into the Fire and will be told: “Now taste the flame of Hell.”
Pickthall On the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell.
Sahih The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."
Yusuf Ali The Day they will be dragged through the Fire on their faces, (they will hear:) "Taste ye the touch of Hell!"

54.49

surah 54 - verse 49

Arberry Surely We have created everything in measure.
Maududi We have created everything in a determined measure.
Pickthall Lo! We have created every thing by measure.
Sahih Indeed, all things We created with predestination.
Yusuf Ali Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure.

54.50

surah 54 - verse 50

Arberry Our commandment is but one word, as the twinkling of an eye.
Maududi Our command consists of only one Word which is carried out in the twinkling of an eye.
Pickthall And Our commandment is but one (commandment), as the twinkling of an eye.
Sahih And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
Yusuf Ali And Our Command is but a single (Act),- like the twinkling of an eye.

54.51

surah 54 - verse 51

Arberry We have destroyed the likes of you; is there any that will remember?
Maududi We did indeed destroy many like you. Is there, then, any who will heed?
Pickthall And verily We have destroyed your fellows; but is there any that remembereth?
Sahih And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?
Yusuf Ali And (oft) in the past, have We destroyed gangs like unto you: then is there any that will receive admonition?

54.52

surah 54 - verse 52

Arberry Every thing that they have done is in the Scrolls,
Maududi All their deeds are recorded in the Scrolls;
Pickthall And every thing they did is in the scriptures,
Sahih And everything they did is in written records.
Yusuf Ali All that they do is noted in (their) Books (of Deeds):

54.53

surah 54 - verse 53

Arberry and everything, great and small, is inscribed.
Maududi everything large or small, is duly inscribed.
Pickthall And every small and great thing is recorded.
Sahih And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.
Yusuf Ali Every matter, small and great, is on record.

54.54

surah 54 - verse 54

Arberry Surely the godfearing shall dwell amid gardens and a river
Maududi Surely those who shun disobedience will dwell amidst Gardens and running streams
Pickthall Lo! the righteous will dwell among gardens and rivers,
Sahih Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,
Yusuf Ali As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Rivers,

54.55

surah 54 - verse 55

Arberry in a sure abode, in the presence of a King Omnipotent.
Maududi where they will be honourably seated in the presence of a King, Mighty in Power.
Pickthall Firmly established in the favour of a Mighty King.
Sahih In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.
Yusuf Ali In an Assembly of Truth, in the Presence of a Sovereign Omnipotent.
